Founded in Vienna, Austria in 1828, the Bösendorfer piano company is renowned for building pianos with what has been described as a distinctive "Viennese sound". These beautifully encased instruments feature amazing tonal versatility, depth and power particularly into the bass register. 

The rim of the Bösendorfer grand is built quite differently from that of all other grands. Instead of veneers bent around a form, the rim is made in solid sections that are then jointed together. It is also made of spruce instead of the usual maple or beech. Spruce is better at transmitting sound.
